Men's Club Weekly News

5th April 2026

Results:

On Tuesday last we had good weather and a great turn out of 66 players including 12 visitors. Best score of the day went to Corkman Jim Noonan with a whooping 43 points which was the result of a very consistent round of golf with no mistakes along the way. Last weeks winner, Noel Ryan R, also had a great score this week but unfortunately it wasn't enough to overtake the winner. With the greens in magnificant order, the trueness of the lines suited Jim McGlynn whose putting and chipping was of the highest order, claiming him the top category prize with 37 points. Another player who has been playing well recently, Clonmel native, Fergal Lonergan went around the 18 holes in 6 over par secured the category 2 prize with a super score of 42 points. Eddie Madden from Tipperary Town continued his good form to pip Joe Fitzgerald by one shot in the third category, both men playing very well at the moment. Our winning visitor Liam Cleary from Thurles Golf Club just held off Patrick Johnson of Carrick an Suir Golf Club on a countback on the last nine holes. Our Junior winner, Mark Cunningham, continues to impress with another fine showing.

Another large turn out of senior men this week, with 14 teams compromising of 56 players with a few new additions playing for the first time. It was another day of great scoring in fine weather, where the winning teams scoring average was over 3 points per score! The 2nd and 3rd scores would normally be good enough to win every other week, so its getting tougher to win senior golf as the numbers increase and as players seem to produce their best golf in a team event. Senior golf each Thursday at 9.30, new members are always welcome.

Results: Murray Fourball qualifiers Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th April

Kindly sponsored by the McCormack Family

A great turn out at the weekend saw 65 pairs go out in this prestigious competition to make the final 16 knockout places. Even though we had a weather warning on Saturday, 62 pairs braved the elements and indeed the two highest scores of the weekend came on Saturday despite the difficult conditions. Top score was that father and son combination again of Brian and Eamon Kelly who succeeded in a count-back over Denis McGrath and Fergal Lonergan. Both teams were very consistent in their scoring, where the winners played steady all the way through. The runners up were boosted by two birdies from Denis. Not to be out done, Fergal produced a vital birdie on the 17th hole to give the team a huge boost. The team event proved very enjoyable for players and it is hoped that a renewed interest in playing for the club teams will be a positive outcome. Our first team out this year is the Purcell team who play County Tipperary GC before 19th of April. Best of luck to their manger Dan McKenna in this fixture.
