10th May 2026

On Monday and Tuesday last we held our fifth round of the Summer Series in fine weather and as a result, the scores were good. All categories' winners were in the forties (Points wise!). There were three players who hit 41 points, Patrick Ryan, Cathal O'Shea (Mitchelstown Golf Club) and Tom O'Donnell, all winning their categories. Ger Griffin followed closely on 40 points while our winning visitor, Goldens Liam Rafferty operating out of Cahir Park Golf Club shot a level par round to take the box of PROV1s home. As the series is a qualifier, the league standings are beginning to take shape. A total of 32 rounds between now and September 11th will give plenty opportunity for players to make it through. An extra date of Friday 15th of May has become available, so hopefully it will suit players. The Friday and Saturday will be tied together as a single competition.

Seniors Golf – Thursday 6th May.
Another fine crowd of 56 players went out in fine weather on Thursday last. We continue to have one or two new players each week which is great. Playing 14 holes, with the exception of the winning team, there was only a one shot by the proceeding 6 teams. Extremely well-chosen teams by Ger Dineen on the organising table!
Next Thursday is a Munster Seniors Open, where you must book on the timesheet individually. Senior's golf returns again in it's familiar format on Thursday 21st of May at 9.30.

Summer Series Open Singles Saturday 9th May R6
Sponsored by Brodeen Engineering, Tipperary Town.
On a fine sunny day but a little colder than normal, we had a great turnout of 92 players including 12 visitors, which was great considering a lot of the timesheet was taken up with matches. A brilliant round of two under par by local man, Sean long was the stand-out score of the day with five birdies on the card. New member Gavin Kearns had a nice win in his category which shows his connections in the club that he is a golfer of note! Andrew Weller came out on top of the third group to add to the newcomers on the podium. Tipperary's Michael J McGrath was revisiting the winners circle after a short break. Our weekly Gross winner, John Corbett Jnr made the trip from Cork a fruitful one as did Jimmy O Dwyer who has strong local connections, who can now collect his box of PROV1s the next time he is passing. We have an extra date next Friday 15th of May for the Summer Series which will be joined with the following day.

Club Teams:
Our J B Carr team travelled to Clonmell Golf Course last Monday to play the host club who had already beaten Nenagh Golf Club away from home earlier. Managers Timmy and Declan Walsh had a strong team assembled after a number of trials. Unfortunately they went behind early in most of the games and were unable to turn the tide. The match finished 4-1. We wish Clonmel GC every success in the next round.
Tipperary team, Jim McGlynn/Michael Kinahan, Bill Merrnagh/Seamus Ryan, Maurice Power/Tommy Moloney,Gerard Ryan/Eddie Madden,Dermot O Dwyer/Joe Kent and Sean Jackson /John O Donavan.
Our Pierce Purcell team played Tramore GC last Saturday 9th May in a very tight match. Managers Dan McKenna and Pat Creamer were forced to make a number of changes due to player availability, but they wisely selected a winning formula, but only just! The match looked destined for a play off at 2 all, Bill Mernagh and Fintan Leahy fought back from 3 down with four holes to play to tie their game and give Tipperary GC a two and a half to one and a half victory. Well done to all and the next round is a fixture away to West Waterford GC, date to be decided, before Sunday 24th of May. Team and panel: Simon Earlie/Michael McCarthy, Noel Hennessy/ Denis O Sullivan, Bill Mernagh/ Fintan Leahy, Paddy Crowe/ Vinny Herbert, Patrick Kennedy/ John O'Donovan.
Our Jimmy Bruen team played Thurles Golf Club on Sunday10th of May. Playing in foursomes format, Tipperay held out for a 2 and a Half to one and a half win. Club Fundraiser Open Classic:
Our annual club fundraiser takes place on June Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 30th May, Sunday 31st May and Monday 1st of June. The importance of this event cannot be overstated as it allows the club to proceed with important improvements, the extended kitchen is completed, and plans are in progress to complete the practice area below the practice green together with accommodation for golf buggies and the installation of solar panels. We are delighted to welcome local Solar energy installation company, Home & Agri Energy as our main sponsors for this event. Any player who re-enters the competition can do so for €15. This presents an ideal opportunity for members to invite family members, friends and non-golfers to participate on a course which is in top condition.
