Last weekend we hosted the Pierse Purcell.  The course was in magnificent condition and the weather was perfect.  Our selectors James Collins and Trevor Flynn had put a lot of work in the last few weeks.  The panel was a mixture of youth and experience.  In our first match on Saturday we had a good win over Clonmel.  On Sunday morning we faced our near neighbours Ballykisteen.  James and Trevor brought in three new pairs and these made a huge difference.  The golf was of the highest calibre with Mark Lowry and Eoghan Burke birdying the 17th to close out the match.  In the evening we faced Slievenamon.  The selectors again changed three pairs.  A large crowd of spectators enjoyed the match.  Tipperary played some excellent golf winning two matches on the 12th  and the 13th. before Larry Creamer and Paddy Moloney closed out their match on the 14th.  Over the weekend 19 players were used and all played their part.  No pair played all three matches and this really told at the end.  There were numerous highlights over the weekend including an eagle from James Doocey and Mark Ryan at the 12th on Sunday evening.  Another highlight was seeing Eddie Collins make a winning debut representing the club after being a member for the last 35 years  Eddie’s career in Golf is all ahead of him now along with his faithful caddy John McElligott.  It’s now on to the area final probably next Wednesday we wish them the best of luck and hope to see plenty support.
