Last weekend we had our President Matt Kavanagh’s prize and what a weekend it was. The weather was good however a stiff wind caused difficulties to a lot of players. After the first round Ger Ryan led by 5 points with a superb 46 points. There were five other players on 40 and 41 points. 36 points got into the nine hole play off. A large crowd watched an exciting play off. The result was in the balance right up to the end and when all the cards were checked the immortal words of a famous Glen of Aherlow commentator came to mind “ the Bear have it” and indeed the bear Paddy O’Shea was victorious. Paddy had 40 points in the first round and in the play off he had a very steady 20 points. He won by half a shot from Brian Treacy. In third place was Paul Kett also on 59½. After the golf we had a barbecue which was a great success. At the presentation our President thanked all those involved in the club. Our winner Paddy then made his usual excellent speech where he thanked all those involved in his success especially his faithful caddy Colm Noonan.
Our Brennan catering sponsored open Tuesday singles is continuing to be a great success. Last Tuesday’s winner was Adam Long with 43 points. This was great achievement by Adam considering he is only 13 years of age. He won by one shot from Colm Noonan, Brian Devlin was in third with 41 points and in fourth place was Mikey Ryan also with 41 points.
This weekend we have our scratch cups Minor, Intermediate, Junior and Senior sponsored by Pierse Motors. They are on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
