Tipperary Golf Club Captains Prize 2011

Jubilation in the club as Jo & Ann win the All Ireland Daily Mail Cup
The club would like to acknowledge the wonderful achievement of the Mixed
Foursomes team in reaching the Diageo Mixed final in Roscrea recently, where
they narrowly went down to an excellent Nenagh team. The co-managers
Patrick Ryan and Renagh Murphy would like to thank all the team and squad
members for the commitment they showed during the recent campaign (in
particular to those who had to take time off work to play during the course
of the event) and would also like to acknowledge the very considerable
support received on the day of the final from club members who travelled to
support the team

Well done to Tipperary Golf Club’s greatest ever golfer, Arthur Pierse, who recently finished runner-up in the British Seniors Amateur Championship in Royal Portrush. Arthur, of course, won that title at Nairn, in Scotland, in 2007.
It will interest our many new members and our younger members to list some of Arthur’s many achievements in a glorious golfing career.
Winner of four major championships – West of Ireland twice-East of Ireland and North of Ireland in which he defeated Darren Clarke, no less, in the semi-final by 6&5-Arthur has over 100 caps for his country-leading the Irish team to a Triple Crown triumph in Lahinch in 1987- played in the Walker Cup in 1983 and represented G.B.& Ireland in both the Eisenhower Trophy and St.Andrews Trophy. He has been the leading amateur in the Irish Open no less than 5 times, has won numerous Scratch Cups and has played with and against many of the golfing greats. In recent times Arthur has starred on the Seniors circuit-the highlight being his great win in the British Seniors at Nairn in 2007. A brilliant long-iron player, Arthur is still regarded as one of the best and in an interview given to Dermot Gilleece in the Sunday Independent Darren Clarke still rates Arthur as the best striker of the ball in Irish golf.
What a wonderful ambassador for Tipperary Golf Club !
