Best score of the week goes to Brian Deegan who won our Open Singles on Saturday with a great 43 pts. Eamon Coffey and Mike Maher were not far behind on Tuesday with 42 pts each. Eamon edged out Mike in a very close battle, the countback going down to the final 3 holes. The competition was also very tight in the Sunday Club Singles with 3 players finishing on 68 nett. Pat Creamer pipped Joe O’Dwyer and Dennis Kennedy on a countback over the final 9, Michal P took the gross.
Teams: Our Cashman Cup team, manager Sean Jackson, are playing away against Cahir Park next Sunday @2:30 pm. Next weekend we host the Irish Mixed Foursomes – East Munster, manager Patrick Ryan. An early start for our team on Saturday @ 8.30am, yawn. Anne O’Donoghue and Seán Bohan represent the Club in the R&A 9 Hole Championship @ TGC on Monday from 11:30 am. Best of luck to all players & managers.
Pace Of Play: With the Shot Clock Masters in Vienna a resounding success it is time again to pay attention to matters closer to home. At times we all get delayed around the course, lost balls and OOB are just two reasons. It is important that we know the rules & etiquette if we begin to delay other groups on the course. If a group loses a clear hole to the group in front and it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group.
While this is the course etiquette we can all also do our bit to play a little bit faster. Both the GUI and R&A advocate ‘Ready Golf‘ as one means to speed up our rounds. Rather than sticking to the formal order of play you’ll be amazed by the amount of time saved through a number of actions. If your group agrees to give it a try then here are some suggestions
- Most important is to be ready to play when it is your turn.
- Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options
- Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait
- Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play
- Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball
- Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else’s line
- Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
- When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is having to walk to their ball and assess their shot

Friday Mixed Scramble
The biggest winner here was the weather. We stayed dry last week while surrounding areas were getting drenched but we were not so lucky this time around. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain sent everyone scurrying for some cover before sloshing back to the Clubhouse when the rain finally eased. We’ll be back next week. Remember, scramble and bbq on the 22nd June.
