Great congratulations go to Michal P Ryan and Pat Creamer who have qualified for the Irish team to play the USA in the International King’s Cup 2018. Billed as the amateur Ryder Cup, The International King’s Cup Match Play Event is a leading amateur event played in honour of golf’s greatest ambassador, Mr. Arnold Palmer. This year’s tournament is to be played 14-18 May at Lough Erne Resort. That is a fantastic performance guys, really well done.

Back at home, on Sunday Larry Creamer claimed our first cup of the year. He etched his name onto this year’s Mackey Cup with a very impressive 42pts in very tough conditions. Our Saturday Singles was won in equally impressive fashion by John McEvoy with 41 pts. A reduced course on Tuesday saw Jon Murray claim the weekday spoils with 32pts. It is also great to see Willie Hyde back on the podium in the Seniors after his forced winter absence. What do they say, ‘beware the injured golfer’?

On the team front, our Fred Daly boys had a tough day in Clonmel and were beaten by Cahir Park. They had to endure some torrid weather conditions but they braved it manfully, fought hard and can walk away with their heads held high. They now go into the plate competition and are eagerly awaiting their next opponents. Let’s hope that the weather is better next time around. JImmy Bruen team practice continues this coming Thursday at 5:30.

Congratulations to the Ladies Minor team who had a fantastic win over West Waterford. It was a thrilling finish with Noreen Crosse clinching the decisive point on the 19th.

Happy retirement to our forever young and sprightly Betty Farrelly. She has been working with the Golf Club since the days of a 9 hole course and a much smaller Clubhouse. If you ever need a tale from days of yore then Betty is definitely one of your go-to girls. On Easter Sunday she pulled her last few pints for us. Betty, you will always be one of the true legends of our Club. Thanks again from all members, past and present.
