Our Teams 2017

2017 saw a great start to the year with the Ladies Intermediate Team bringing in a fine 3/2 win against Cobh in Charleville.

Our Minor and Challenge Cup teams battled hard right to the end but just lost out in Fermoy and Cahir.

Irish Junior Foursomes 2017

Irish Junior Foursomes 2017

Guided by Brian Devlin the Junior Foursomes unfortunately lost out narrowly – on the 18th in both matches.  Our pairs were Niall O’Shea + Patrick Kennedy, Niall Hogan + Steve Patten.  The standard of golf was excellent and matches were played in an extremely sporting fashion. The Junior’s in the Club can teach us all a thing or two about carefree and exciting golf. These youngsters have total belief in their ability and don’t understand the feeling of that nagging ‘what if the ball goes right’ type of thought which can pop up just on the downswing.

Ladies Senior Cup

Well, what can we say? These Ladies, along with Club Members & Officials, did us very proud on a very special weekend for the Club. Nerves were jangling both on the tee-box and behind the scenes. Given all the effort that had been put in this was now the moment of truth, ‘would everything go as planned?’. Fear not, the weekend was a fantastic success all round. Our Ladies Senior Cup team gave us a thrilling weekend at TGC. While the Cup didn’t stay at the Club past the weekend the Ladies put in an unbelievable performance and were only just pipped in the quarter-final by eventual runners-up Lahinch. Rather than repeating all the accolades here I think you need to take a read of the report for the weekend. Just Fantastic.

Ladies Junior Cup

Our Ladies Junior Cup Team have had a very busy and an outstanding year on the course. Under the management of Kathleen O’Dwyer they reached the Munster Final, playing against Limerick G.C in Cahir Park. The girls put in a great performance and were only just squeezed out, in playoff holes, by a team who certainly ‘putted for dough’ on the day. Well done to Yvonne, Renagh, Mary, Anne, Joe, Kathleen and of course everyone else who was involved in a great journey.

Jimmy Bruen

Fantastic Jimmy Bruen Supporters 2017

Under the stewardship of Michael O’Brien our Jimmy Bruen team travelled to a tough Clonmel course breezing past Slievnamon in Round 1 only to come up just shy against the local favourites, Clonmel, who went undefeated over the weekend. A late ‘back-door’ area-semi-final re-entry, due to a handicap slip-up by Clonmel, saw us pitted against the local foe, Ballykisteen, on a beautiful Summers evening at Dundrum. At such short notice the support shown from Tipperary GC was fantastic and is always much appreciated.

Our first match out, Donal Elliot & Pat Fanning, got off to a flying start being 2up through the first few holes. The BallyK pairing then got into their stride stringing together a series of pars & birdies, fighting back to win that rubber on the 15th. Adam Long and Tom J Ryan took everything in their stride, winning their point with ease on the 15th to level the scores at one a piece. The strong pairing of Patrick Ryan & Michael Keaty were surprisingly 2 down with 2 to play. They showed great fighting spirit winning both 17 & 18 to bring the match down the 19th.  This was surely going to be the key match with the final two matches being 1up and 1down going down the 17th. Ultimately a great bunker shot from BallyK put too much pressure on our own pairing and BallyK took the point on the 20th. The last but one match , Ger Ryan and DJ Lynch, were beaten on the 17th 2&1 and the final pairing, Eddie Walsh & Dan McKenna, were called in, leaving the result at 3.5/1.5 in favour of BallyK. On a positive note we blooded some new young hounds and they can’t wait to get some more action time. They are itching to fight for their place in next year’s team. Well done to BallyK, we wish them luck in the area final.

Senior Cup

Warm sunshine, a healthy breeze, a captive audience and some seriously good golfers – the perfect theatre.

While being disappointed with the result of their match our Senior Men, under Tim Walsh, certainly did not disappoint us on the field of play. Drawn against one of the hot favourites to claim the title, our team gave a fantastic performance against a superb Dungarvan side. Lady luck did not smile on us this year and Dungarvan fought through to a very tight 3/2 win. As predicted they went on to claim the title for the year. Again support for the event was fantastic. You can read the full report from the weekend here . Sadly, like many of our men, the Senior team are a little camera shy so I can only leave you with a shot to give you a flavour for the weekend.

Junior Cup

True to it’s name, Carrick-On-Suir presented a tough course with some beautiful slick greens. Despite torrential rain during our practice game the match-day brought in a lovely clear morning with beautiful views but also a very very hard and fast course. Our Junior Men, led by Patrick Ryan, found the going a little too hard with some big bounces swinging our match in favour of Thurles.

Beautiful views along with a hard and fast course.

Belvedere Cup

Our Belvedere Boys have done a fantastic job this year, reaching the County Final.

They now face Thurles G.C. in the final on Sept 14 @ 2:30 pm in Tipperary Golf Club.

These seasoned warriors, under the command of JJ O’Donoghue & Paddy Crowe, are in fighting form at the moment and I’m sure they’ll do us proud.

Good Luck Guys.

Irish Mixed Foursomes

 Diageo Mixed Foursomes

They now play Cahir G.C. in the final on Sept 17 @ 12 noon, playing in  Roscrea.
